“…{these} are the last songs the band had in the vault. It’s hard to imagine why these stayed there so long; the four rarities here rank among Wishes on a Plane’s best. The opening “Untitled” captures the messiness that made so much of the emo of the 1990s so powerful—all overlapping vocals clamoring to cut through, like Becker’s tripping over his words to get it all out, and sudden dynamic shifts with a real sense of tension and release. That formula gets streamlined a bit on “What’s Left of What Is” to great effect, the band pulling back every every chorus only to come back even louder, like hikers losing their footing climbing a mountain, and the version of “Anywhere” that appears here heightens the contrast between its softest and heaviest moments. The album takes a bit of a detour between “Untitled” and “What’s Left of What Is” with “Tide,” which allows the band a chance to cut straight to the hook—it’s the most straightforward emo-pop song Wishes on a Plane has put out. The acoustic songs that close Lost Songs are a nice addition, but they don’t sound too far off from Becker’s more recent work with Amid the Old Wounds. With just his voice and a guitar, they aren’t as dynamic as the songs that precede them. They ultimately serve as reminders of the potential this band had; who knows what a song like “New Year’s Eve,” the prettiest and most compelling of the three, could’ve become? In the end, though, it’s hard to think of higher praise: one’s left wondering what more could have been. There are, undoubtedly, countless other emo bands from the same era whose work was lost to time. Thankfully Wishes on a Plane isn’t one of them anymore”

the vinyl version is being pressed on dark red marbled or light gray marbled vinyl, limited to 110 copies each, and is being co-released with old kids records in germany, rufen publishings in japan and new knee records in the us. it comes in a plain gray jacket, bound by a red stripe, stickered in the front and back. the main imagery depicts wood prints of weathered growth rings. subtle, yet powerful, they remind us that time leaves marks and memories. fitting with a posthumous collection, I’d say. various prints of the same slice of wood are spread over 8 sheets of paper, housed in a small gray envelope, which is handnumbered. those sheets feature lyrics and liner notes on their flipside.

I just started taking preorders for another posthumous release of wishes on a plane’s distinctive and raw sound of mid 90’s diy emo, inspired by and reminiscent of earlier releases of mineral, the get up kids, penfold and elliott, which will be released on november 7th

first up are three songs from local compilations that are mostly unknown. starting off with ‘untitled’, which had easily fit with their later songs that ended up on ‘unreleased’. it’s mostly distorted and rocking, except for a few lighter parts. next is the even more upbeat and simple ‘tide’ as heard on last year’s compilation on slow down records. very catchy, almost radio-friendly. my all time favorite ends side a, the twinkly, almost ballad-esque ‘what’s left of what is…’

side b features an alternate version of ‘anywhere’ that has a lot more ‘ooomph’ than the original version from their s/t EP, which was arranged very sparsely. here we get spooky layers of vocals, multiple kinda odd acoustic guitars throughout the verses and layers of distorted ones in the choruses. side b then seeks closure over three lo-fi acoustic demos recorded in the early years of the band, potentially when we hadn’t been a full band yet. we are happy to be finally able to offer the last missing bits of the band’s body of work

Blast-core mayhem from Liverpool, UK with Corrupt Moral Altar // Confine // Chinsniffer members – in the vein of Excruciating Terror and Discordance Axis.vs. Japanese straight forward, totally bonkers grindcore, but the riffs, the blasts–everything has a signature.

Noisy post-punk with multiple meanings, multiple feelings

celebrating both the 100th time as a color release and 5 year anniversary of the first amid the old wounds record we had barry brusseau of gorbie lathe cuts make 30 copies of this clear blue, square 8″ record. It contains two very old phone-recording-style demo versions of early atow songs, which are exclusive to this release (almost, they also were on a bonus CD that came with the Japanese version of the ‘almost lost’ CD, released by rufen publishings). records come in handpainted and leaf-printed envelopes, each is unique, and include a handnumbered insert with liner notes and a small flyer from gorbie lathe cuts explaining some of the process and providing more details.

not technically a time as a color release as I decided to self-release this as an artist but a new amid the old wounds EP titled  ‘anticipating you.’ can be streamed everywhere and is also available on bandcamp for name your price. there is an additional CD version I tried to spread to multiple distros and shops that is being distributed under a name-your-price-policy as well, so if one of these makes its way to you please consider giving something back, instructions can be found on the back of the lyricsheet.

I still have a couple copies of CDs myself I will throw in with shop orders while supplies last.

a lot of stuff is still all over the place and it might take me one or two days longer than usual to process orders but the shop is live again and every order is well appreciated. I deleted my entire inventory on discogs by mistake and am not sure when I will be able to put in the time to relist 800+ records, but most items should be listed in the shop anyway.

on may 30th I am self-releasing a new amid the old wounds EP titled ‘anticipating you’ across all platforms. it’s not an official time release but I will be throwing copies of the CD version in with every order while supplies last. these are meant to be name-your-price (instructions included with the CD), so please consider giving something back.
