Description
I think back very fondly about French emo in the noughties. So many good bands with interesting styles, and fortunately I managed to catch some of them live. It’s a quieter scene these days, as is modern emo across the board it seems, but a few bands are still going for it. And labels like Stonehenge and Puzzle still exist to help promote it. Chaviré are right out of that time, releasing a demo in 2015 and now a full LP in 2017. They have that jangly feel and passionate French vocals. The lyrics are in French too and I wish I could understand them. Amanda Woodward used to have fantastic lyrics. The band fly through eight tracks and this is the right length. It’s good, whilst never quite hitting memorable or being distinctive enough. It took me a while but I am convinced by the end that there are folks from Bâton Rouge in the band; some of the guitar sounds and one guy joining in the singing on ‘Le Feu, Les Cendres’ give it away.
